I don’t know about you but I’m feeling exceptionally nervous today.  Apprehensive ahead of the England v Uruguay match tonight.

Sitting in Starbucks I can over hear staff talking excitedly to customers about the game; sorting out the team and where they should play.  Who needs Roy Hodgson?

It’s great that just for a while that we are united together with the common goal for England to win, which of course they must, to keep in the competition.

The World Cup is brilliant and with England still in it, it’s even better, so let’s hope it stays that way.

Whilst I was alive when England won the World Cup in 1966, unfortunately I was too young to remember a thing.  I have, however, lived through the trials and tribulations since:-

  • the era of Gary Lineker (the golden boot), Gazza (the tears), Gareth Southgate missing the penalty – no not the pizza advert!
  • the players who gave us hope back then – Owen and Beckham
  • and today – Sterling, Sturridge and the ever controversial Rooney – should he or shouldn’t he be picked?

For four years we have lived through a new manager, the worries of qualifying, the upset of the Italy result on Saturday and now it’s crunch time.

We always watch it at home.  A theme has developed; my husband goes in the kitchen and England score so he is sent in the kitchen!  It’s clutching at straws but if it works, he’s in that kitchen!

Let’s go one better and hope Brazil has confiscated that caramel!  If that’s the reason Uruguay lost last time I’m all for plain old bread and butter!

Come on lads, we are all behind you, make us proud!
